Anne Washburn asks what remains when the lights go out in her 2012 opus on popular culture, memory, and myth. Director Yury Urnov had a new take on this piece, produced at the Wilma Theater in 2017. A group of disaster survivors use THE SIMPSONS as a jumping off point to connect in Act I, go on the road as re-enactors in Act II, and by Act III set 80 years into the future, the fusion of culture to cult is complete. Ms. Healey was nominated for a Barrymore Award for this costume design. You can learn more about the creative process of the show in this interview with Yury Urnov.

Michael John Garcés tackles hunger, climate change, GMOs, and community in his epic play inspired by Mozart’s MAGIC FLUTE. When Tammy and her sister Kiko find themselves on the wrong side of the Queen of the Rain, their only hope is to find and rescue her heart- Corazon- from the evil SARASTRO Corp. Will they rescue Corazon in time to help her stop SARASTRO from corrupting the magic seed that feeds us all? WIth the help of the wanderer Pageni and an operatic collection of eccentric guides from all over a drought-plagued Los Angeles landscape, not even the spicy scourge of a life-sized Flamin’ Hot Cheeto can stand in their way. Magic Fruit is the final play in Cornerstone’s Hunger cycle. To learn more about their work, you can visit their website here.

PALESTINE is a one-woman show about the life of Najla Said, daughter of Edward Said- the celebrated academic and Palestinian activist. Najla describes growing up Arab and Palestinian in New York City, her own experiences with prejudice, and being the daughter of a famous father.
The costume of hand dyed and painted fabrics and hand made jewelry were custom built exclusive to this production, and the blouse features an accent piece made from one of a kind vintage jewelry. The floor motif represents a unique image from traditional Palestinian embroidery, and the back curtains were hand dyed to match the floor treatments. PALESTINE has also been presented on tour and was the basis of Najla’s memoir Looking For Palestine.
